“Give more
than you wish to, and you shall receive double in return”.
“The hand
that gives is better than the hand that asks”.
Don’t we
often hear our elders preaching us such good habits since our toddlerhood?
This is the
virtue of generosity!
Generosity
is a feature that has been granted to both humans as well as animals. It
reflects a kind heart.
Some people
might be generous from a tender age, while some might not have developed that
feeling. But this a feeling that needs to be encouraged in children right at a
tender age.
However the request made has got to be reasonable
of course!
No one has
ever become poor by being generous. Instead, our value increases immensely! People
respect and appreciate us.
A simple
smile is the most foundational step to generosity. It cost us nothing yet the
satisfaction of having delivered it brings us more in return. And it is such an
action that triggers immediate response, even from a stranger.
In moments of
dire need, our generous acts can save someone.
For example, paying a child bus’s
fare, buying school materials for a student, giving a helping hand to a father
to feed his family, a classmate who needs homework or notes.
Generosity
need not necessarily involve monetary factor. Our hand-down clothes bring
happiness. Helping an old person cross the road, assist someone who has fallen
or had an accident, aid your neighbour carry her grocery bag, share your lunch
box with friends at school, few vegetables and fruits shared during Corona lock down.
At school, the
fun and happiness of sharing our goodies with not only friends, but even the
driver, conductor, teachers and the peons.
That simple
generous act builds their respect for us, and a trustworthy relationship is established.
A fundamental generous word that we skip
sometimes or just take for granted: Thank you!
True, even
generosity has its own limits. It should not be taken as our weakness.
If
someone asks you, “Can you give me your house and/or bank account?”
Would you?
Obviously,
you are going to refuse!
However, that does not prevent us from being generous
in a way that is convenient to us and not bring any harm either.
Being rich
does not give you the right to rule over people. Generosity is a feeling that
should come from the heart, not a calculative move nor a boisterous one. It should neither make the
person feel inferior or at our mercy, but generosity should make the receiver
feel honoured and loved.
Hence, why
don’t we all together stand fortified in our hearts and develop the eminent quality
to be more generous and kind to anyone and everyone we meet :
Be it human, animal or nature...NisMah
